Accounting Specialist – Manufacturing

Are you an experienced accounting professional who enjoys having a variety of responsibilities rather than doing the same thing every day?

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join an established manufacturing company in the Pittsburgh area. This is a hands-on accounting position responsible for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, collections, reconciliations, and general ledger support.

Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, you will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization.

This position does NOT handle payroll.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
• Process and review vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding
• Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documentation
• Prepare customer invoices and maintain accurate billing records
• Monitor AR aging and proactively follow up on outstanding balances
• Perform business-to-business collections and resolve payment discrepancies
• Apply customer payments and maintain accurate account balances
• Reconcile vendor and customer accounts
• Assist with bank and account reconciliations
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Provide general ledger support
• Assist the Accounting Manager with month-end closing activities
• Research and resolve invoice, payment, and account discrepancies
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
• Work closely with Purchasing, Operations, Receiving, and other departments to resolve accounting issues
• Assist with additional accounting and finance projects as needed

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of accounting experience involving a combination of AP, AR, collections, and general ledger
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
• Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
• Previous manufacturing accounting experience is highly preferred
• Experience working within an ERP/accounting system
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to research and resolve discrepancies independently
• Strong communication skills, particularly when working with customers and vendors
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Comfortable working independently while also supporting the Accounting Manager and broader team

Compensation

$55,000-$58,000 annually, based on accounting experience, manufacturing background, ERP knowledge, and overall skill level.
