Leading freight forwarder in the Richmond area is seeking an experienced  Logistics Operations Specialist.  As the Logistics Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating pricing and transportation options while providing exceptional customer service to its domestic clients.

Responsibilities

• Will utilize a network of internal and external transportation suppliers to determine the most efficient and cost effective process for providing the requested service. 
• Will be responsible for evaluating multiple options regarding transportation; pricing, timing, availability, volume and other factors with direction from management. 
• Interpret and implement standardized management policies and operate company practices when arranging transportation with vendors and clients. 
• Serve as the front-line communicator for customer and vendor disputes. Handle complaints and resolve them using exceptional customer service to preserve customer satisfaction, vendor relationships and company reputation.
• Effectively manage multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Proactively identify shipments at risk of service failure and take control of shipments to ensure on time delivery.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and various shifts.
• Research all possible routings via airlines, line-haul, pick-up/delivery, scheduling, and geographic servicing.
• Document all shipments with detailed trace notes and accurate data entry. Complete additional shipping documents as required. Thoroughly document all information for every shipment.  Maintain with accuracy, appropriate TSA and DOT documents including documents for the movement of Dangerous Goods.
• Will monitor and update shipments.
• Be available for 24-hour on call rotation when requested by management.
• Communicate any issues that place shipments in jeopardy with internal customers, external customers and service providers. Escalate issues to management when appropriate.
• Must ensure 100% compliance with all TSA regulations regarding the Indirect Air Carrier Standard Security Program and Shipper’s Security Endorsements.
• Utilize current and developing Internet tracking applications to effectively update, communicate and monitor shipment status.
• Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

• Must have 2 years' experience in transportation, logistics or other transportation business.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications
• Experience working with Dangerous Goods/HAZ-MAT certification is a plus!
• Must be able to complete air and ground shipping documents both electronically and manually.
• Must be able to work outside of normal business hours in order to meet deadlines when necessary.

What You’ll Do
As an Overhead Crane Technician, you’ll inspect, maintain, and repair overhead cranes and weight-handling equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.

This is a hands-on technical role with autonomy, variety, and opportunities to work on complex systems—not repetitive checklist-only work.

Key responsibilities include:

• 
  Performing inspections, load tests, and preventive maintenance on cranes, hoists, and lifting devices
  
• 
  Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and structural components
  
• 
  Conducting OSHA and applicable regulatory inspections (including NAVFAC P-307 where required)
  
• 
  Diagnosing complex issues and identifying root causes
  
• 
  Developing repair scopes and estimates
  
• 
  Completing clear, accurate documentation
  
• 
  Working independently in regulated environments
  
• 
  Supporting and mentoring junior technicians when appropriate

Systems You’ll Work On
Mechanical

• 
  Gears, brakes, bearings, wire rope, hook blocks, driveshafts
  

Electrical

• 
  Festoons, pendants, radio controls, motors, disconnects, runway electrification, control components
  

Structural

• 
  Runway systems, end stops, welds, structural alignment and integrity

What We’re Looking For
Required:

• 
  5+ years of experience as an Overhead Crane Technician, Inspector, or related heavy industrial role
  
• 
  Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  
• 
  Working knowledge of OSHA, ASME, ANSI, and CMAA standards
  
• 
  Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings
  
• 
  Comfortable working at heights (up to 130 ft)
  
• 
  Valid driver’s license (CDL required within 6 months—company supported)
  
• 
  Ability to obtain and maintain access to secure job sites
  
• 
  U.S. citizenship required
  

Preferred (Not Required):

• 
  Navy / Marine Corps Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) experience
  
• 
  NAVFAC P-307 inspection experience
  
• 
  Shipyard, port, or heavy industrial maintenance background
  
• 
  EM-385 familiarity
  
• 
  Class A CDL
  
• 
  NDT Level II (MT / PT)
  
• 
  AWS welding certification
  
• 
  Factory training on crane control systems
  
• 
  Forklift or manlift certification
