Project Manager – Construction or Civil EngineeringLocation: Richmond, VA Job Type: Full-time Experience Required: Minimum 3-15 years Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (No college degree required) About the Role:We are seeking a seasoned Project Manager with at least 3 years of direct experience managing construction projects in vertical builds, or civil projects, roads or work with VDOT, bridges or parking lots. The ideal candidate is a self-driven professional with strong sequencing abilities, excellent written communication skills, and a passion for continuous learning. This is not a foreman-to-PM transition role—we are looking for someone with true, hands-on project management experience from project planning through closeout. Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all phases of construction projects, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, sequencing activities for maximum efficiency.
Coordinate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
Write and review RFI's, change orders, subcontractor agreements, daily reports, and closeout documentation.
Conduct project kickoff meetings, progress updates, and post-construction reviews.
Lead procurement efforts and coordinate timely delivery of materials and equipment.
Monitor field activities and proactively resolve conflicts, delays, and safety issues.
Maintain organized records, track project costs, and manage forecasting tools.
Identify opportunities to improve workflows, self-teach industry tools, and implement new technologies as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience as a Project Manager in vertical construction, civil projects, VDOT, road, bridges or parking lots
Strong written communication skills: able to draft professional correspondence, technical documents, and reports. This is a critical skill for this position
Experience working with or for VDOT would be beneficial but not required
Excellent sequencing and scheduling skills; familiarity with construction based software
Proven ability to work independently and self-teach unfamiliar systems or concepts.
High school diploma or GED required. College degree not necessary.
Demonstrated leadership and decision-making abilities.
OSHA 30 or similar safety certification preferred.
