Job Description

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER / MANUFACTURING EQUIPMENT ENGINEER

This is not just another engineering role, it’s an opportunity to step into a mission-critical position where your expertise will directly shape the future of our growing company.

Unlike many companies where key roles turn over suddenly, we’ve planned ahead: you’ll be able to train with our incumbent Manufacturing Equipment Engineer for several months before their retirement, giving you the confidence and continuity needed to succeed.

Position Overview:
Industrial Engineer / Manufacturing Equipment Engineer
Location: Ohio
Compensation: $110,000–$130,000
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with flexibility
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Reports To: VP / Director of Operations
Relocation: Offered

Overview
This is a highly impactful, hands-on engineering role ideal for someone who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys both complex electrical/controls work and mechanical troubleshooting. This position is not limited to one discipline — the engineer will be responsible for Electrical, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering design and support across two production facilities.

You will work closely with our retiring BSEE Manufacturing Equipment Engineer during a multi-month transition period to ensure continuity, knowledge transfer, and confidence in taking full ownership of all plant systems.

This engineer will spend a significant amount of time on the production floor working with specialized OEM equipment, troubleshooting issues, upgrading systems, and driving improvements across molding operations, expanders, block molds, shape molds, steam/temperature-controlled systems, and related automation.

Key Responsibilities Electrical, Controls & Automation (Primary Focus)

  • Own and lead all controls engineering tasks across the plant.

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize electrical systems, control circuits, and equipment-related wiring.

  • Program, modify, and maintain PLC systems including:

  • Allen-Bradley Logix 5000

  • CLICK PLCs

  • C-More HMIs

  • Manage and maintain Keyence vision systems (candidate will fully own this technology).

  • Conduct electrical troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and system redesigns as required.

  • Support electrical design for power distribution and plant layout modifications when needed.
    Mechanical & Equipment Engineering

    • Diagnose machine malfunctions and underperforming or inefficient equipment systems.

    • Troubleshoot and repair issues with molding systems, steam and temperature-controlled equipment, expanders, block molds, shape molds, cutting blocks, and unique OEM machinery.

    • Lead preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives, lubrication schedules, and non-destructive testing practices.

    • Recommend and execute mechanical system upgrades, improvements, and redesigns.

    • Support tooling, fixturing, and equipment layout changes as needed.
    Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering

    • Develop and implement cost-effective manufacturing processes and equipment improvements.

    • Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, safety, purchasing, and vendors to drive solutions.

    • Support production launches of new or revised machinery and equipment.

    • Maintain accurate documentation, engineering drawings, equipment logs, and performance records.

    • Manage engineering and maintenance projects, ensuring safety, budget, and timeline compliance.
    Hands-On Plant Support

    • Spend significant time on the floor, especially in the early months, to gain deep understanding of equipment and processes.

    • Provide real-time troubleshooting support to maintenance and production teams.

    • Train, mentor, and assist maintenance technicians; fill in as needed.

    • Apply a solution-focused approach to creatively resolve equipment challenges.

    Required Skills & Experience Education

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) strongly preferred.

    • Other engineering degrees considered with strong controls + troubleshooting experience.

    • 10+ years of relevant experience may substitute for degree in certain cases.
    Technical Requirements

    • Strong electrical engineering and controls background.

    • Proven experience in PLCs, automation, and troubleshooting industrial control systems.

    • Experience with molding, tool design, or steam/temperature-controlled equipment a plus.

    • Ability to develop creative solutions to improve reliability, uptime, and efficiency.
    Soft Skills

    • Hands-on, proactive problem-solver.

    • Strong communication skills across engineering, maintenance, vendors, and leadership.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    • High accountability, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety.

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    • Significant time spent on the plant floor working hands-on with equipment.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods.
