Financial Controller Lingo Staffing | Onsite – Richmond, VA Salary: $150,000+ (commensurate with experience) No relocation assistance
Lingo Staffing is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead our internal accounting and finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for owning month-end close, financial reporting, payroll-related accounting, and day-to-day financial operations in a fast-paced, service-based organization. Longevity at past positions is valued. Staffing, Service or Manufacturing experience is a good fit.Â
This role is ideal for a Controller who enjoys being close to the business, taking full ownership of the numbers, and partnering directly with executive leadership. Candidates with strong job stability and experience operating inside growing organizations will be most successful.
This position is fully onsite in Richmond, VA. Core Responsibilities
Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
Prepare and deliver clear, actionable financial reporting to senior leadership
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, including identifying risks and corrective actions
Oversee revenue, payroll, commissions, accruals, and expense accounting in a service-driven environment
Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
Improve payroll efficiency, controls, and consistency across the organization
Support short- and long-term operational planning with reliable financial insight
Serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, providing practical guidance—not just reports
Ongoing Operational Duties
Oversee the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP
Maintain strong controls over revenue recognition, payroll, expenses, and cash
Partner closely with the COO and executive team on budgets, benchmarks, and reporting cadence
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and financial regulations
Protect company assets through disciplined controls and continuous process improvement
Lead, mentor, and support the internal accounting and finance team
Coordinate with external partners (banks, auditors, tax providers) as needed
QualificationsRequired
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
10+ years of progressive accounting experience
CPA strongly preferred (CMA/CGA/CA acceptable)
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
Experience in service-based, staffing, healthcare, or payroll-driven environments
Demonstrated ownership of month-end close and internal financial operations
Ability to communicate financial information clearly and practically to non-financial leaders
Preferred
5+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role
Staffing or professional services industry experience
Proven success improving accounting, payroll, and close processes
Experience in multi-state operations and tax compliance
Comfortable operating in a hands-on, evolving environment (not overly layered or siloed)
